I am planning to go to Morocco in mid to late August and we have been reccommended a town called Essaouria by my boyfriend's brother. Naturally we'll get some advice/info on what to do in the area from him, but I would love to hear any reccommendations and stories on holidaying in Morocco from you all. Reasonably priced, good places to stay would be particularly useful. Thanks.

"my husband spent a few months in morrocco and he didnt like it. hope you like sand and camels."

First off, this is the most ridiculous statement someone can make! This is like saying I hope you like the rain for someone who is going to the United States because the only part they have ever been to is Seattle.

That being said...

Essaouira is a resort town in Morocco near Marrakech (yes, there is sand, yes it is HOT, and yes there are camels). The city is an ancient fishing villiage that is now host to tourists from all over the world. Step back in time to see the beautiful medina or hang out by the beach, go surfing, 4-wheeling and other ''westernized'' activities.

It is less than 200 miles to Marrakech, where if you want to shop and see the ''real'' Morocco, the trip along the way will grant you with beautiful vistas of what southern Morocco has to offer.

Please be advised to bring bottled water, sunscreen, and most of all go out and have fun.

Marrakesh is a town that sums up every one of Morocco's spectacular North African allure, view it with hotelbye . The city's title offered the main for the name of the country it self, spelling out that town's value down the ages. Within the hustle of the town primary you will discover old and new clashing and mixing, that may make some tourists nearly dizzy. Snake charmers and easy shop touts equally contend for the attention amid a noisy, vivid bustle that encapsulates Morocco's vibrant soul. For many guests, Marrakesh's labyrinth Medina (Old City) area could be the town's star attraction. The thin alleyways really are a kaleidoscope of colors, smells and sounds. Is bound to function as sightseeing highlight of your journey; along with the simply wandering is supposed to busy maze.

I've been there twice. it's very nice city, cheaper than Marrakech.
it's not so easy to find an hostel in August but with patience it should be OK (or maybe booking), the beach is crowded in this period but you could make 5 km (north or south) for more tranquility. moreover they are several surf and wind surf spot. It could be windy there also.
a trip to Marrakech and east of morocco could be a very good idea.
if you need more information, tell me

Marocco is a great place to go on vacation, you should go to Fes, Tetouan, Essaouira is very nice too. You have Marraquech and Casablanca but I think those two are both too touristic. Anyway you should have a great time.
