The major advantage is that it is taught in an educational non-biased manner of what happens and why...not when/if it should happen and not to do it until you are married or 40.

It really should be the parents responsibility, but too often parents are just too uncomfortable to deal with the situation in an objective, educational manner or they feel that by providing information that they are condoning pre-maritial sex, which I personally don't feel that is true. Also, most kids feel uncomfortable asking questions or discussing sex with their parents...especially when they realize that the parents had to have sex at least once and still could be and it really creeps them out.

I have a 12 year old and his Dad really freaks out when he asks any questions so he usually asks me, but being that I have never been a pre-teen boy, I have to look up stuff and get back with him. At least if they have another source to ask, it could prevent an unwanted pregnancy, STD, or the worst of all AIDS.

I don't know what the questioner means by "not the parents."
Anyway I can think of two possibilities. One, some parents do need sex education so that they can finally get it that they are responsible for their kids and hopefully become more serious about parenting. Two, it is enough if teachers pass on their knowledge to the students. The students can then explain to their parents- a good example of "each one, teach two." For a change parents will be truly interested in what the kids learnt at school!!!

i think it should be taught by both. Schools because they can give a more factual and broad approach to sexual education, and parents because the kids would feel more comfortable asking questions when it's not in front of an entire class of peers.

School or teacher (person) are a replacement for parent for child.. in school.. a student will have teacher has they own parent..

soo... the education (sex) are not teach by teacher but by your parent (teacher as a replacement for your parent)

sex edu not mean u teach to... xxx but teach the begining before you do the xxx move.. I mean how to flirt a girl and know them better..

It should be taught at home, but some parents wimp out.
My parents never "had the talk" with me, and I had to awkwardly put the pieces together myself.

Both school and parents should teach it, parents come from a protective angle while school could come from a more "what is so" angle. Sex should be celebrated.

some parents are too shy or inadequate to explain the education, so schools are well equipted to offer a standard program of education...and will test your knowledge.
