I have a 3 moth old and feed him when he starts getting "that look". He looks around as if he lost his favorite toy, then I see his little lip start to pucher. He ends up eating every 2-3 hours, but he sleeps all night without interuption.
pretty much, your child is old enough now to fall off her scheduale. She is learning to express herself a little bit now and can tell if she's hungry, it is just up to you to read her cute little mind. I have noticed that my baby gets fussy sometimes even after nursing, so I have started feeding him food. He loves it!! He eats bananas, macaroni and cheese, and cereal sweetened with fruit juice. this helps him to feel more full, and we eat at around 2 every afternoon. I noticed that he will eat and nurse, then not be hungry for over 3 hours. this shows me that milk isn't sustaining him as well as it did in the past, causing him to want to nurse every 2-3 hours.
pretty much, you are on your own. Get ready for an entire lifetime of questioning every single thing that you do. being a mother is a very hard job, but if you follow your heart and instincts you CAN be the best mommy in the world for your baby. Good luck!

I wouldn't wait until she cries because by the time she cries, she's not just hungry, she's frustrated because she hasn't been fed. Maybe you could try to stretch the time between feedings by 15 or 30 minutes and see how she does. If she's eating well at each feeding right now, though, you probably are right in tune with what she needs. I knew my daughter was ready for fewer feedings when she would take considerably less milk at certain times. I would experiment with your routine a little, and I think your baby will let you know if it works for her or not.

well i have a baby girl that just turned 4 months a couple of days ago and she is on a schedule every 2 to 2 in a half hours she eats 4 ounces.she falls asleep around 9-9:30 every night and does not wake till 6 0r 7.i love it that way.some babies need more ounces then others, but not that drastic.personally,i would not wait till they cry because i would feel like by that point they would be starving.remember they can not talk and let u know verbally when they r hungry.also ask her doctor.i am not sure about ur baby or other babies for that matter but my kids do not keep eating when they are full, she usually plays or pushes the bottle away with her tongue when she is done.but u did not mention if ur baby is nursed or bottle fed.ask the babies doc.it's tuff but good luck.

Newborns should feed on demand. There should be no "schedule", unless she's the one who set it. So since 3 hours is obviously not enough, try doing every 2 hours.
It is good to remember that babies this young cannot over eat. Their tummies are very small and can only hold a very very small amount of milk. So if your baby wants to eat, it's because her tummy is not full. Once it is full, she will stop eating.

If she's on a good schedule I would suggest still feeding her every three hours. There's no need to mess around with a good thing. If you're afraid she's eating too much try to give her 6 oz instead of 8. Or whatever. just cut down alittle.

You didn't mention whether you are formula / bottle feeding or breastfeeding. As a former breastfeeding mother I knew when my baby needed to nurse because she would give little signs like rooting and starting to fuss before crying. I'd imagine that even if you are bottle feeding that your child will give you some form of communication that s/he is hungry. Trust your motherly instincts to know when your baby is hungry.
Feeding the child when s/he is not hungry can lead to obesity or eating disorders later in life. Children need to learn to recognize when they are hungry ... and to eat when you are hungry, drink when you are thirsty. However, I wouldn't fret too much about it at this age. Just watch your baby for signs and pay attention to the number of dirty / wet diapers that she has, her growth and behavior... i.e. is she happy and energetic with good color or listless, etc.
If you're still in doubt look it up on the American Academy of Pediatrics web-site or check with your pediatrician.

Crying is a late indicator of hunger. If you are watching her, you should see her begin to root or show other signs that she is hungry. Cue feeding should be fine. I would be anticipating her to want to nurse about every three hours, but it's OK at this age to wait and see if she asks before you offer.

She should be doing one of three things eating pooping or sleeping. If she is not doing the other two feed her. Please dont follow this advice it was meant as a joke and I do not want to be responsible for a 60 pound 6 month old.
