Professionals, in general, don;t know jack. If they do, it's only one particular subject or topic. The bosses also have a high say in this, as you mentioned. They can fire the professional if the professional doesn't do as their told. I think professionals can very easily be bought out.

People including professionals have subjective judgements.
It can be subjective to prejudicial views, personal experiences, quality and quantity of knowledge, and of course funders of their research or bosses.
A professional in a particular field will have more access to the knowledge on that field and given there training will be more likely to be right then another person who has,nt had the training.
However the key is probability, if there is large chance that they could be right, there is also a small chance that they could be wrong and therefore someone else who is not a professional could be right. That is of course if the professional is not lying and deliberately misleading.
What you must understand is that most professional who are coerced to mislead will stop short of fabricating data, and will attempt to misinterpret the data, given it a sort of spin, of what it really shows to back up there pre determined opinion, you'll be surprised how often this happens!

Even professionals disagree with each other. You're right about the uneven thinking among people we regard as professionals. There can be many reasons though, some not so sinister. It can be a difference in training, updated training, and keep in mind too that professionals are people just like yourself who developed a special knowledge and the license that goes with being able to apply that knowldge, but internally they are people who have been affected by all the same influences of prejudice, ethics, etc, that affect you and me. The word professional is rather vague in meaning too - too many people use it to describe themselves, but fewer numbers really earn the title.

Hell yeah!! we're all biased, individually and through training. Doctors are a great example... they are trained to believe the cause of an illness is physical and to ignor the psychological and social i.e depression, . they also believe that treament should be biological ie tablets and they exclude other theories of illness and treatment. Alternative health is looked down upon and ignored, just like psychological, they own the right to diagnose and treat and they are desperately trying to keep this control to the detriment of the patient. it always comes down to has the power to define and who has the purse strings. i think any professional or organisation that discounts competing theorists or opposing explanations are biased, you can not gain an objective and balanced opinion unless you atttend to all of the arguments.

Sometimes there MAY be a hidden agenda - intended or otherwise. However, you have much greater risk by not cxonsulting a professional and getting something wrong than by consulting a professional and getting slightly fleeced.

No,i tend to go in the opposite direction, because most of society is brainwashed into believing that,if your doctor tells you to take a ,based on MAYBE,this or that MIGHT be wrong with you,you blindly submit to the doc's command's because you were alway's told as a child,do what the doc tells you, because they are a doc, they spent 8yrs in med school, their smarter than you, just obey, and most people do.That's just one of a million examples i can give you.People that are in a occupation where they had to go to school for years and years,i dont put any admiration for them because of it,nor do i think their "know it all's" just because they've been to college! I have met ten's of thousand's of people, most that are college educated are very ignorant and extremely brainwashed. Most that have a H.S. diploma are more able to think for themselves, and have more bright's than most college educated people that i know. It's common sense smart's that get's you thru life, not book smart's.

Absolutely not. Usually, I am more skeptical just because a person has a vested interest in selling me certain products or having me take a certain action.

Always, of course they cannot be ALWAYS right. As humans, we commit numerous mistakes in the course of our lives, hence even in our profession. The only sure thing is even if professionals know their stuff, i am sure they know, that they do not know everything. Hence, they commit error!
