Yes. Most of us will (or at least want to) engage in sex. Informing people at a young age would prove to valuable. Children can learn how it all works and most importantly the responsibilities that come with sex (pun intended). This is knowledge that would be applied, as opposed to calculus math, which many of us were forced to learn and never had to apply in the real world.
There's a lot of parents who will never "have the talk" with their children and that alone teaches our children that we should be ashamed about sex. If sex is openly talked about, then there's no big deal and we'd all feel a lot more comfortable with ourselves and others.

I think it should be both. I think ultimately it's the parents' responsibility, but you know and I know that that doesn't always happen. Kids need to learn about it one way or another. Some parents only teach some things, too, but won't tell them about other things that kids really need to know about like contraception for example. Parents may not approve of it, but kids still need to know about protection, etc. The bottom line is kids need to know the facts...all the facts. Parents can help guide them from a moral standpoint, but the kids still need to know.

~~ideal would be the parents teaching their children, but because that isn't happening, they need to learn it someplace and better school than the streets. (however, i don't believe the schools should promote the use of condoms or the pill, but should teach abstainance, and teach the consiquences of STD's and un-planned pregnancies. if the parents and the schools both taught this the number of un -planned pregnancies and std's would drop considerably... also there would be a lot less broken hearts out there.~~
