No need to install anything. Just type in "format c:" or you can insert your Windows installation disc and it will ask too if you want to format your PC first.

A format will erase everything on your hard drive! You would have to reinstall everything including the system software (windows). It is only used in the worse situations. If you do not have all the software disks (CDs). You will lose that software.

Go to your accessory under program files and look for DISK FORMAT option. Once you run this your computer is a blank screen in pure DOS MODE.

NOTE: Your can Start the Format by putting in your Windows Software CD and when it asked if you want to FORMAT the Hard Drive say YES. It should FORMAT and then INSTALL the Windows Software again.

Good LUCK!

Do you have the Windows CDs that came with your computer? The CD will have all the system files that are required to reformat the hard drive, plus will reinstall Windows on your PC.

All the system reformats I've ever done have been from the Windows installation CDs. You have to follow the prompts on each screen & confirm when it says to "confirm" your decision.

Also, BACKUP any important information you have on your computer that you don't want to lose. Once you choose to reformat, that information is lost forever!

Also, you will have to reinstall any programs you have on the computer right now ~ so make sure you have the installation CDs for those programs or the links to get them from online.

Check out the links below ~ Hopefully, they will give you a few more pointers (depending on the version of Windows you have)

Good luck! :D

If 98 or NT, you can use partition magic and delete the partition and create a new partition (NTSF) and format the new partition. You would then insert your OS disk and install.

If using XP, you would insert the OS disk and begin the installation. During the install it will give you the option to delete or create new partitions. You would first delete existing partition/s and create a new one. Select NTSF as your partition type and leave the existing volume No. as is. You would now format your new partition (don't use quick format) and complete installation of your OS. The disk will lead you through all of this :)

Make sure that you have antivirus software and spyware ready to install, as these are the 1st two things you should install after your reformat. Hope this helps!

If you have Windows CD with you, you may try repairing instead of formatting first. You may save some time in backing up and re installing. If it Windows XP, it asks questions as what do you want to do , repair, format or install another copy of windows.

But if it is necessary to format, once you boot up go into CMOS setup( usually by pressing DEL key) and choose CD ROM as first boot device. Insert your windows CD into CD ROM drive. Choose the desired answer to format your PC. Program files in windows CD will be installed automatically. Additionally you need to install your mother board drive, Sound card, graphics card, modem drive if you have dial -up, and all other software necessary for you and importantly an anti virus. You need not to reboot for every software installation.Instead continue to load all and reboot PC once. That's it!!

Either run the command string:
format c:/s
(the s parameter makes it bootable)
or,
delete everything by running a program like "Autonuke", and windows will automatically reformat on install.

1. Use software.

2. restart pc
go to bios, choose first boot -> cd room/dvd room
insert os installer (windows 98, 2000, me, xp, or any others).
when it asks, "press any key to, run from cd" or something like that, press any key (a, b, c, enter, etc).
just follow any instruction,
format your selection drive
and so on, till finish.

3. if you are using DOS, just type "format " + drive you want + ":".

sorry if not detail enough.

Install?
If you format you remove it all. Almost all.

After that you reinstall your (probably) windows. So you need a windows CD to boot your PC from. It will most likely start itself to install Windows again.

You need to put your program disc in, xp or whatever you have, and choose to degragment. Follow all the directions exactly. It won't change your home page or e-mail. Or, click on "My Computer", and click on defragment and follow the directions exactly. You have to turn off your anti-virus to do this, but you wont be online when you do this anyway.
