I think you guys are right on the mark with this one. It started to fade in 96, and it seemed like it was dead in 1998. Music used to be exciting, because they were so many different styles to choose from. Now most people are trying to be the same man.

Hip hop has not died; its just not "in your face main stream" like in the 80s. Props to Mos but there are many others keeping it real. Ever heard of Little Brother? My personal fav that gave me new faith that new school is still a part of class is the Foreign Exchange album Connected!!!!! But also not to ignore Blackalicious taking you on on a lyrical roller coaster line by line. Transforming the old to new is A Tribe Called Quest, a group to set the standards for sucka mcs in the new millennium, also going on tour again this fall. But to truly answer... I'd have to say that the sound of the old is "betta" so go head and include the new school with the old school hip hop sound. And by the way F@CK RAP!

definitely old school!! 50 Cent and the rest of these "rappers" out here have nothing on the old school, make-you-think-while-bopping your head rhymes. :)

You didn't have to call someone a ***** or a hoe to sell records, you actually had to think and be original...I loved that.
