My mum's suffering from high blood pressure and one of the most important thing is to reduce salt intake.
Not just salt added to dinner's e.g. on Salad or on your potatoes, but salt is present in nearly all bread, tinned food, frozen food, jars of sauce. You need to check that you're not going over the recommended 6g per day. I'd personally go for less than that though.
Also drink more water. People with high blood pressure can get water retention, getting extra fluids flushes your system of toxins - which can cause water retention.
More fruit and veg. At least 5 a day (7 is probably best). Every morning I make my mum her breakfast which consists of at least 2 different fruits wit her weetabix. No one will ever tell you to stop eating fruit or veg. It's the best thing for you.
Cut down on meat. Eat Fish at least twice a week in place of any meat or vege variaties. (watch the salt though).
Excercise will also help, just steady walking nothing too over the top otherwise you risk increasing the bloody pressure further.
Stop smoking if you do. Never a good thing.
High blood pressure can be caused by the narrowing of your arteries that carry the blood back to the heart. This can be caused by Cholestoral (bad LDL cholestoral). This needs sorting out and the rest should follow.
I'm trying to get my mum to do all this and we're getting there slowly and surely.
Don't get too stressed either. Take time to relax as often as possible. Sit in the park at lunch time, take a bath after work, take a trip down to a nice quite beach in the nice weather...

a. Celery is high in 3-n-butylphthalide. In animal studies, intake of the equivalent of 4 sticks of celery for humans was shown to lower the blood pressure by 12%. b. Garlic has been documented to cause a modest reduction in blood pressure. Take at least 4 cloves a day of fresh garlic a day for a 10 mm Hg drop in systolic and 6 mm Hg in diastolic pressure. Any meal high in veggies and fruits and low in sodium will be good. Less stress for the heart to work. take easy walks and eat healthy not fast food and you'll be amazed.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

High Blood Pressure Diet
Purpose
Diseases of the heart and blood vessels are the number one cause of death in the United States. People with hypertension, or high blood pressure, are more likely to develop these diseases. Therefore, it is important to try to lower elevated blood pressure.
Hypertension cannot be cured in most cases. It can be successfully managed with lifestyle changes and/or medication. Reducing the amount of sodium in the diet can help bring blood pressure levels down.
Nutrition Facts
With proper food selection, a diet for high blood pressure can be varied and adequate in all nutrients, including vitamins and minerals.
The Role of Sodium
Sodium, of course, is essential for good health. While American adults average 4,000 to 6,000 milligrams daily, the recommended daily limit for the general public is only 2,400 milligrams. Someone with high blood pressure should consult a doctor to see how much sodium should be consumed daily. As a guide, however, 2,000 to 3,000 milligrams (2 to 3 grams) is enough.
A common dietary source of sodium is salt. Sodium is one of two minerals that make up salt (the other is chloride). One teaspoon of salt contains a whopping 2,300 milligrams of sodium&emdash;an entire day's supply! But sodium is also "hidden" in the diet in other foods, mainly processed and packaged foods.

Tomato, potassium chloride(instead of common salt),garlic, onion and all fat free food will help lowering high BP.But in the case of very high BP you have to consult and take medicines regularly.Lemon -Honey tea will lower Bp.But nothing is effective as doctor's prescription.BP, untreated, may result in partial paralysis, heart problems ctc.I request you to consult and get medical advise early.BP or hyper tension is a silent killer ,if not treated.

High blood pressure is, therefore, best treated without drugs. If we consider the fact that in this condition, the circulation is working too hard to nourish the cells, then it seems reasonable that some of the causes include excess weight, electrolyte imbalances, lack of exercise, fluid overload (due to poor kidney function), stress and fatty-acid imbalances. The last cause usually involves deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids and too much trans fat in the diet. These trans fats replace saturated fats in the cell walls with the result that they become too stiff.
