Fixin would be an erroided term for offiating. Here in Kentucky it started from church business meetings in the Bible Belt. The term stuck and has been used ever since, even spreading out to the Midwest. No that's a pack of lies, but still it is a coruption of something.

because that's just one of our great words. Wouldn't you rather be fixin' to do something than not? Just curious. I don't see why anybody would have a problem with us saying this. It's a habit that is hard to break. I've been living in Germany for two years now and I still say it everyday!

The same reason why they tell some one to "com mere" or they ask someone to open the "winder". Being in the south your not naked your nekad. When you go shopping you use a buggy not a shopping cart. I used to live in Sou Calina not South Carolina. I could go on and on, but you get the point. Thats just the way they say things. Took me years to speak proper English, well as close as you can get to proper English in America.

it comes from when in the farms people would be on the side of the road working on their tractor, and someone would drive by and say "what are you doing?" the guy who was in the middle of fixing his tractor would say "im fixing to plow the field" or something to that matter. so if you are trying to fix your lawn mower, someone drives by your front yard and strikes up a conversation you can be "fixing to mow the lawn"

Because everyone has their own way of saying stuff. people in the north and diffrent parts of the world and country all have their uniqueness. there is nothing wrong with any of it
