Hey All

Firstly, before i start, this isnt a thread to attack either the Israelis actions in Labanon or Hezbollah's, thats for another time.

My question is, with the HMS Illustrious and the HMS Bulwark approaching Lebanon, would the Navy be justified in breaking the Israeli blockade to extract British nationals?
Let me explain. Their are several news channels following the actions minute by minute, such as the BBC and Euro News. A spokesperson from the Royal Navy said that she believed the Navy would be justified in forcing a break in Israels blockade as our Citizens are currently being bombed due to Israels campaign.

Do you believe the Navy will, and is justified to, break the Blockade in order to extract British Citizens?

Cheers

Let me just expand. I ask this because Israel has already turned back a French warship and an Italian tanker.

What makes us thinkthe Israelis wont do the same with the Navy's vessels?

I would guess they would seek permission to pass the blockade, British/Israeli interests are too similar to cause an international incident. I am guessing the U.S. will do the same.

But if Israel said no way, which I think is unlikely, then the British Navy would have its hand forced and would probably be justified in running the blockade, especially since their intentions are not nefarious.

Israel may let the navy vessels in to extract British citizens, but I doubt very seriously that Hezbollah will let them leave. Civilians are valuable human shields and bargaining tools.

I believe the Israelis will open the blockade for foreign nationals to leave. IDF has no fight with Britain or Canada or the US. Accomodations will be made.

Any attempt to force through a blockade could be considered an act of war.It would not be wise to try.

Why do you think Israel would object to letting the citizens out? I'm sure they may want to watch, so no funny stuff will go on.
I'm also sure they were notified in advance.

I don't think the Brits would be stupid. They will try diplomatic means to extract their citizens safely.
