They do, people call them freaks. People don't like different, it makes them a target for bullying or stereotyping.

Day by day, we seek a balance between being a member of a group and being an individual. I think the tendency to conform derives in part from not wanting to be lonely (really, we all need interaction with other human beings) and from not wishing to be excluded from society (breaking the law results in punishment and incarceration).
We often pander to other people's views because we want them to like us. We feel they will give us more love, more money or will spread our good name to others if this is the case. This stems from childhood. When we behaved as good children we got treated well and when we were naughty we were consequently punished. In some ways, one's family is one's founding society or main social group.
I think most people follow a life based on some social status, even if it's not the typical consumerist, high-earning model. Why do many people follow this particular code? Media advertising promotes a certain kind of behaviour, I think. The advert shows the reward for the good behaviour of buying the product. Society seems quite confused between two sets of norms, on the one hand 'get a job, wear these clothes, buy a car...' consumerist ethics and a more loving 'think about others, care about others' personal ethics.

some people do, some people do a job they enjoy as opposed to a job with status and learn to live within their means. we live in a society based on consumerism, and its difficult to go against the grain. if you could opt out of society and be self sufficient on your land growing your own food etc that would be great, but the law of the land means you have to pay taxes (even if you dont use the facilities) so you need to find a way of earning money, this makes living an alternative lifestyle difficult. plus, people judge, if you dont keep up to date with certain things you become excluded and, so you have to buy into it if you want to be part of it. also society imposes restrictions on people, we all know of the cat woman metaphor on the corner of the street who doesn't socialise at all, people think she is mad, suffers from a mental illness, report her to authorities because she attracts strays (cats) and her house smells etc and eventually she has to give up her chosen life style, because the rest of scoiety do not allow it. at the end of the day, life is easier if you conform, if you dont conform you have to know your rights and the law and have the money to do so, and you get the money by conforming.

life's not based on social status .. we are all individuals and all capable of doing things of self worth to control our appetites in life .
life isn't about who your not , its about who you are !!!!
life is what you make it some people are happy with a basic job , children and a wife or husband and then some are different and want more than what id call the norm !
some people i was at school have gone abroad to good jobs and seen the world , i have not but don't think I'm any less a decent person for not doing that , .
I'm a single , working mum , i work hard to care for my daughter and me , we have a good life . and that's because I've made it what i want with what I've got .
also i don't care if I'm at the bottom of the social ladder , I'm happy
with my life and where we are going .

Because conforming is 'easier' and because we are social animals we need to feel part of a 'group'. To conform to our chosen group we will dress, speak and behaviour in a way that is acceptable to that particular group. For example, teenagers will dress and behave in a very different manner to, say, those who are middle aged because they are not a part of that group and do not want to be associated with them (but still want a close social link with their own age group).

Because most people are like sheep, and the those control the world like to keep it that way, they don't encourage people to be individuals because it would be far to difficult to control them. It's going to get worse, they are slowly but surely trying to force us all to think, do, be the same and remove all freedoms except the freedom to do and say what they want, it's all apart of the New World Order.
You will assemilate, resistence is futile.

I think for living this way you first need a motive. But even then one has to go through a lot of hardships and suffering which everybody cant afford to go through.
