Communication is the ability to send and receive information.

People, animals, plants, and some mechanical devices (i.e. computers) can communicate.

Communications skills are grouped into two main categories: receptive (taking in) and expressive (sending out).

One can communicate verbally (with words to represent ideas) or non-verbally.

One can communicate through any sense (visual, auditory, tactile, etc.).

For example, reading skills are visual, receptive, and verbal. Writing skills are visual, expressive, and verbal. A baby crying is auditory, expressive, and non-verbal.
