How could people possibly cheer for Hezbollah?

I'm watching the news and it's showing people burning the Israeli flag and holding up pics of the Hezbollah leader. They're terrorists! They kill innocent people, and they have a fan-base. It boggles the mind!

While I grew up in Northern Ireland, so I know about the debilitating impact of terrorism, the only way out of it is to understand that not everybody thinks the same way you do. I know it can seem very strange, but then your life probably seems odd to people who feel persecuted by the American funding of Israel (many Muslims are not very happy that western countries sent lots of Jewish people to take over the land which had been their homes for generations). There are always two sides to every story, but not everyone is willing to accept that notion.

Ultimately, trying to make peace involves some understanding that issues are grey rather than black and white - the extremists are born from a scenario where they feel disempowered, so engaging everyone is important. Listening to other views and REALLY trying to understand them is also important. I don't for a minute support any terrorism, but I can see how people feel that it is their only way to influence their lives. Sad isn't it.

Incidentally, if you 'create' an artificial nation of immigrants in a culturally homogenous land, you are going to create conflict. Most of the Jewish population in Israel have migrated there since the 1920s, displacing the existing Arab population. Previously, the Jewish population in this regions was less than 1%. Is it a big surprise that the locals wouldn't like this? Imagine the US being forced to give up one of its states to house recent Arab immigrants, who then build a wall into the surrounding land and send tanks in when the displaced people rebel. Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Shame it's really happening, but with different name tags.
