Sometimes when I write my letters type in caps even though my caps lock is not on. When I turn Caps Lock on the letters go back to normal but then caps lock is on. When this is happening and I need to type in numbers it prints ! @ # $ instead of 1 2 3 4 for example. The symbols are typed if the caps lock is on or off it doesn't seem to matter. I don't know if this is a problem with my computer or just some kind of key combination. The only thing that fixes the problem is shutdown (restart doesn't fix it). Also when I click on an icon on my desktop it highlights all the icons in its row and keeps doing and when I go to another row the ones highlighted before stay highlited. I am on a laptop. Can anyone help?

Your shift key is stuck. To find out which one, go to the link below and download the software (Keyboard Test Trial version).
It helps you detemine the faulty keys.

What this software does is, it allows users to quickly check that all the keys on their keyboard are functioning correctly, check the keyboard LED's, look at the internal scan codes being generated by the keyboard and measure typing speed.

Sounds to me like an issue with one of your Shift keys sticking. Shift is used for Caps and Highlighting multiple selections. Get some canned air and blow out the keyboard real good. If you have a broken key, it may need repaired.

You must've pressed a combination that reversed the effect of your caps lock. it happened to my friend before. It happened accidentally so we really didnt know how to reverse it.

But you can use the "On-Screen-Keyboard". You can find it on your Start | All Programs | Accessories | Accessibilities | On-screen-Keyboard. Hope this might get handy while trying to figure out another solution ^ ^

I'm not sure but your Shift key might be stuck? Go buy a can of compressed air and spray the dust and stuff out. Hope that helps.

Good luck!
