Everybody know that The Net was created by God, and if I could remember the correct Mark, Lucas or John I would loudly quote it to you..... as with the dinosaurs there is much 'evidence' in the bible which absolutely confirms without a shadow of doubt that stoneage man had laptops, and ergo The Net. When you reach the Gates of heaven you will see that there is a little plaque on them stating ' Donated by Bill'......

The internet was first invented to have two computers connected to share information. Basically for the public it looked like AOL. Yes AOL was like the only thing out their, well not the only thing, but the major one.
It was pretty much a , "You got mail" , "Welcome" , "ChatRoom" type of thing. Just basic stuff, nothing too hardcore.
I used to be like 10 years old and i used to always go on AOL chatrooms and tell people i was like 21, it was the fun thing to do then.
Now the internet is huge and is full of anything and everything, it's actually become so popular that it's no longer seen as a geek trait.

Started out as early as the 60's through the US military's ARPANET project. later on in the 70's DARPANET became available to universities and libraries and it's becoming so popular that the military released it for public use somewhere in the 80's...
but since connection speed is a problem, only in the 90's did the internet boom as technology improves..

The net has been around for decades, although it wasn't available for personal/commercial use for years. It really became popular in the early or mid '90s.
Here's an example of Yahoo!'s front page 10 years ago:
