I discovered this habit the French have ,when I was a teen-ager, ang I just wondered if any-one else discovered it too.

Do you find that the french use their hands a lot when they speak?

I've seen that too. Never really noticed before though.

It's not the habit of using gestures that's interesting but the different meanings of the same movement in different cultures. :) As for your question, as you travel downwards to the south you'll find people gesticulate much more and with a greater vehemence. Check out the Italians and the Arabs!

I think it's pretty common in Europe. I don't know about the French, but hand movements are much more common in Italy and Spain than in the U.S.
