Radio Speaking - is a high school speech and debate competition event, involving the preparation and delivery of a five-minute newscast. Scripts may be prepared the day preceding a tournament, or in a thirty to forty-five minute "prep period" before performance. Usually, competitors are given a packet containing international, national, and local news, one or more advertisements, sports news, and a weather forecast. Competitors then have the "prep period" to compose a newscast, using the most relevant news possible, and organizing it in the best fashion they can. At the end of the "prep period", the performer delivers the newscast to a judge, usually over a microphone. The time limit is very stringent in Radio, and going beyond a five or ten second grace period above or below the five minute limit results in disqualification. Competitors may use a stopwatch to keep track of their own time, and the judge and/or timer keeps track of time as well.

Television - transmission and reception of still or moving images by means of electrical signals, especially by means of electromagnetic radiation using the techniques of radio and by fiberoptic and coaxial cables. Television has become a major industry, especially in the industrialized nations, and a major medium of communication and source of home entertainment. Television is put to varied use in industry, e.g., for surveillance in places inaccessible to or dangerous for human beings; in science, e.g., in tissue microscopy and in education.

The term has come to refer to all the aspects of television programming and transmission as well. The word is derived from mixed Latin and Greek roots, meaning "far seeing" (Greek "tele," meaning far, and Latin "visus," meaning seeing).

Motion picture - movie-making as an art and an industry, including its production techniques, its creative artists, and the distribution and exhibition of its products
