my first time to get a laptop with DVD player. i'm wondering are they region free? thanks

no. they are not. but i think you can change the region using some software..........

No OEM's ship their product with a Region free DVD drive. There may be some unauthorised product which may have a region free DVD which may probably run on a region crack.

You need not worry about the region code if you use VLC player. You can play any region DVD's. I believe this Workaround is the best possible solution if you are owning a branded Laptop.

No DVD drive on the market (that is, legally on the market) is allowed to be region free. There might be some drives that have been hacked to be region free, but otherwise, they are locked. In PC's however, it is possible to change the dvd region a specific amount of times (I think it is 5), after that, the drive locks itself in the hardware and you cannot change the region after that.
