Anyone here like the series? Favorite character? Any opinions on it?

I really love this series. It got me a little more into reading. So far it's the only actual series I can stand to read. It opened up a whole different part of my life when I was about 12 and got me wanting to be a writer. They actually gave me motivation. Although my heart broke a little when I found out Katherine got other people to write most of them.

Anyway, my favorite Animorph is Cassie, since she likes animals, and I can totally relate to that. I hope to do something with animals when I get older. She's my favorite Animorph, but Erek is my favorite character. I have no clue why. He's just so cool, lol.

I enjoyed the series quite a bit until Applegate "jumped the shark" and started using ghost writers. I've read the whole series, but I've only reread up to that one point where things go sour. Anyway, my favorite characters were the Hork-Bajir, I think it was a cool idea to have those aliens with connections to the plants among the Andalites, the aliens with connections to the animals. Cassie was my fav Animorph, too.
If you liked Applegate's Animorphs, you might also like her Everworld series. That one was great from start to finish. You might also like the "Switchers" trilogy by Kate Thompson. They're older books you might only find in the library, but it's also about kids who have the ability to shapeshift, and they are not limited to just animals, which makes it really cool. Lots of fantasy mixed in with the scifi.

Heh, kinda caught me off guard to see a question like this.

It is a golden moment that I go up to my room and open a random selection from my Animorph shelf. I don't think I have ever been more dedicated to something as such. Animorphs got me into reading, really, and they inspired me to do creative stuff I probably might not have done otherwise. It is unfortunate the series has been effectively forgotten, I think a re-emergence of the series would do well and benefit the youth of the globe today. Unlike you, I have no attachment to the author, Remnants being the only other series of her's that showed any interest to me. (her writing was good in telling the story, but it still lacks essence writers like Bradbury, Chriton, King, and Straub have)

My favorite animorph was a mix between Marco (for his inappropriate cowardish notions and poor sarcasm), Racheal for her Bravery, and Jake for his leadership. I always saw Cassie as a necessity for the group's survival, but a hinderance overall and a coward. Sometimes you just got to pull the trigger, and she never could. If I had to go with one though, I'd pick Jake because of his reluctance to accept responsibility that no one but him could handle. His strength and far-sighted wit partnered to give him the aura of a pure hero.

I think that Applegate hit something on the nail when she paired the arrogant blue Andalites with a pathetic slug race. Her actions at first make you sympathetic to the victims- the andalites, but soon the truth is revealed. Later in the story you can see that the andalites have no more right to survive than do the yeerks. A certain sympathy for their race sprawls your form and you are forced to accept that the Yeerks are truly not as evil as they seem. (a subtle point as the book nears the destruction of earth at the hands of these pitiful creatures) In the end, human preserverance wins out an Applegate pisses everyone off with a climatic and very appropriate cliffhanger.

"Full speed ahead"
