I just finished the third book, and I was so sad. Why, oh, why did Zane have to die, and why does Tally have to end up on the oposite side as Shay again? Also, has anyone noticed the the last word in the Uglies book is pretty, the last word in the Pretties book in special, and the last word in the Specials book (before Tally's signature) is ugly?

I honestly don't know why Zane "had" to die in the last book. I thought that was sad...although I guess he used it as a way to "wake up" Tally to what was going on...what she needed to do...and who she wanted to be. Since Tally had to "think" her way out of being pretty and special...I guess Zane's death contributed to her ultimate decision. I didn't see Shay and Tally ending up on opposide sides at the end of the book. Yes, Tally and David decide not to live in the big city with Shay and their former friends...but that doesn't mean they're enemies. David and Tally were just loners. They needed to be outside the group not inside. Neither one of them would have been happy living there. But I don't think Shay and Tally were enemies at the end.
