That's not true, some gangs do give back to the community. It's true...in a sick way.

I'm talking about all governments in the world essentially.

Especially looking at Israel's vicious attacks of Lebanon.

yes
the more legitimation a gang can achieve,
the less force it needs to use in social control
royal families are gangs
a government represent a ballance of power between the representatives of its member agencies - armed forces, land and capital owners (cheifly royalty and these days business cheeses), and, though declining globally, unions.
Back the right horse and you can live well under their "protection".

Not so much.

The government is more like a security agency. You pay money, they protect you from other countries.

A gang is considered a group of people who come together with intent to break the law. So no the government isn't a legalized gang really.

However I understand the analogy and they are only a hop, skip and a jump away from becoming one.

Gangs don't rule by the consent of the ruled.

Some governments, however, are just strongmen which are essentially gangs that got *a lot* of power.

a gang doesnt really provide services or perform any real function for the community. they basically just monopolize territory and claim it for themselves. A government does.

You should read Common Sense by Thomas Paine, you can find it for free on the internet. Their power only exists because the people allow them that power.

Gangs don't provide any public services.

Other than bullying, gov't and gangs don't really have that much in common --as it seems at first glance
