WRT54G. I cannot get the router to connect to the internet. My wired router had no problems discovering the DSL settings but this thing is confused. I can connect to the internet without the router so DSL is fine. I can establish the SSID on the router and my wireless laptop can see it and says that the wireless network is there and available. However, the wireless is just not connecting to the internet.

Just to clarify. I'm doing the configuration via my home PC which is not wireless, connecting it to the router via ethernet. Connecting the PC directly to the modem, bypassing the router, the internet works fine. But with the router added to the configuration, no internet access.

Again, my non-wireless Linksys router works fine. That router configures itself fine. It knows that my ISP wants to use DHCP, that my hostname is whatever, etc. The wireless router can't figure out the DSL/modem and requires me to enter these settings manually.

Might it just be a bad router? Should I exchange it and try again?

You need to check what kind of network card you have in your laptop and your router.

If you e-mail me ALL the details about your router and network card, I would gladly help you out.

I'm not sure, but you may have like a different kind of router than your network card. (i.e. Your router is AB while your network card is AD).

Hey, I have that exact same router. I could help you if you gave me more information but 1 thing you might want to check is if there is software that came with your ISP hook up. I have comcast and there was a conflict with the software from my ISP and the router so I just disabled the ISP software and it worked.

Sounds like you have to open up the firewall to allow network access to the WAN. You should be able to do this by accessing the router settings on a browser. It's usually something like 192.168.0.100 in the address bar of your browser. From there you can change the security or firewall settings and restart it to allow access.
