I doubt that you can "prove" to everyone's satisfaction that you did not do whatever was said about you. The best you can do is to be honest and to do your best. After enough time passes, those people who have come to know what kind of person you are will forget about this episode, or they will simply discount this as the false accusation it is.
On the other hand, if this situation does come up, I would start looking for another job immediately, because whoever spread this nastiness about you probably will do something else even nastier to you. I would start working on an exit strategy now so if you need to leave this job, you can leave on your terms. You shouldn't have to worry about what others are saying about you on the job. If you know someone is spreading lies about you, you can expect that person wants to hurt you. Don't wait for the next attack from this person; because that next attack could be "fatal" to your career.
Trust me, stuff like being accused of things you did not do can lead to your being fired by an ignorant boss. If you wait to be fired, getting another job will be a whole lot harder after you actually have been fired. That is why I suggest you make plans to leave NOW! You might not need to leave this job, but an escape plan ready to use, "just in case", could save your reputation, your mental health, and your income.

If you're being accused of something terrible, then set out to prove yourself innocent. Try to find out who REALLY did whatever you are accused of.
If you're just being accused of something minor, don't bother worrying about it. It's just gossip and speculation, and it'll die down quickly. If it's a minor accusation, deny it a couple times, then ignore the accusations. Whatever you do, do not break down and cry. Just let the gossip bounce off of you, and people will forget about it soon enough.

If the accusation affects your life or lively-hood, you must seek public redress by the most affective method.
Start by demanding (in public and amongst friends) the proof that the accusations are real.
If the accusations are merely annoying or upsetting, tell them to ' Go forth, and multiply'.

Speak up! This should not be hard for you because you are defending your own reputation here. But, do not be angry when you do this. Calmly confront first those people who are accusing you and ask them where they've got the idea. Then explain them your side.

No matter what you do, the person who is accusing you will use your behavior against you. You do nothing and behave as normally as possible. As long as you know the truth, what does it matter what anyone else thinks?

it's a tough one really if u deny it to much and make a big deal people think u have done it or if u don't say enough people still think u have done whatever it it. as long as the poeple u care about know the truth and believe then don't worry about what other people think or think they know. i gave up defending myself ages ago this woman thinks i got with her bf just after they split up which i didnt and she still trys and have a go at me everytime she sees me and just makes herself look stupid the people who matter know the truth so i dont care what she thinks anymore.

To be bad it only takes a fraction of time but to be good you have to behave for rest of your life. People will respect and look up to you.
