When attacked by people in ski masks, sneakers, AK-47's, RPG's, and Katusha rockets, DO HAVE TO respond using the same gear & equipment?

Disproportionate response is the inappropriate reply to an attack or search conducted by a group. For example, a simple police response need not be responded to by a large army.

What it means in general, and not getting into the israeli thing, is you respond to a wrong with far more force than is justified. For example a police officer is shoved by a drunk, steps back and kills him by shooting him in the head.

Of course not. It's the kind of complaint that someone partisan to the other side would have.
If I punch your arm every day, you do not have to stick with punching my arm once every day in response - you can act to stop me from puching your arm in the future.
