The reason stated for tuesday is because people had to travel to their country seat to vote originally. To prevent people from having to start travelling on sunday, they moved it past monday to tuesday.

It is going back to whilst human beings had to shuttle to the polls to vote. they might flow away on a Monday & perhaps shuttle 2 days by capacity of wagon or by capacity of horse to get to their polling region. There are states that save the polls open overdue so extra human beings can vote. in keeping with hazard longer hours to vote or Saturdays could be extra useful.
