what makes a good gimmick?

as i posted im a rock singer,what makes a good gimmick.Slipknot has the mask,Manson the satanist diffrent thing,kiss the paint...what makes it really cool...and yet interesting.Is weird good?

yes wierd is very sexy. manson is hot!
and slipknot is 1 of my fav. bands.
im litening to duality rite now.

Today, I think retro in both the look and sound is making a hot trick in getting people's attention. Pretty much all the "original" gimmicks have been hashed out already.
