There is this wooden board game called Gobblet, which is basically like tic-tac-toe and connect four. It's very simple, yet very complex. Look it up in your search engine. I got this game about a year ago, and it is a party favorite. I'm 100% certain that when it catches on, it'll be the latest craze. Great game! Check it out!

To pick a card game only...has to be Fairy Tale. It sort of plays like a collectible card game, without the collecting aspect :).
Board Game is definitely Power Grid right now.

Poker - any form. I have been playing for a lot longer than the boom has hit, so the newbies are easy money. I love it.
