the phone service enable you to use there DSL service even if its in your area? Thats what I heard.

You can get DSL through the Cable Company also. The DSL provided by the Phone company requires you to have their telephone service also. It is like having your computer connected to the phone line for dial up service. Just you don't do the dial up, just a direction connection to the internet.

DSL requires an active phone line, even though it operates on a frequency separate from the telephone.

DSL is an internet type service. You don't need to have aworking phone for it. Go throught compcast, they have pretty good stuff. Or I heard dsl extream is really good.
