I dont know if these exist in USA but in the UK these places are to house ex offenders released into the community from prison.
Maybe they are a good idea, as long as the house is not next door to yours? Have you any experience of living near to one of these places, good or bad??

Not all half way house are for ex offenders. Some are hostels for thse on the housing list, with children, who cannot afford to buy and can't afford private renting and can't get a council or local authority house because they have either been sold off or given to immigrants!
The ones with ex prisoners in them should be in the middle of no where though and not be in our towns villages or cities. Perhaps they should build them next door to downing street and the politicians house then there would always be police about to keep an eye out

I have one 5 minutes away. They are junkies drying out,and giving up drugs. There is a constant stream of ambulances daytime.I only notice when Im going to collect my child at home time.Luckily I dont see the night time activities. But daytime, junkies sit on the pavement, and unsavoury characters hang around.Mostly they are trying really hard to get back on the straight and narrow.

I grew up near a halfway house for ex-cons. The men living there actually did a lot of great things in the neighborhood.

Me!

There's a pub just outside the city centre called The Halfway House! But I don't know its history - never been in, don't ever want to.

But to answer you question, i have no idea.
