I've been asked this question several times before and I always have a difficult time explaining exactly what it is. . . Put it this way... If your phone has bluetooth, you can send files and ring tones and pictures to other phones that also have bluetooth, or even to a bluetooth enabled computer. You can do this directly, so you get to send the file without paying to send a "message". You can turn the bluetooth on your phone "on" and it can detect other phones within a 30 foot radius (roughly) that also have their bluetooth on. Then you can send files to a phone that you chose (maybe your friend's phone, if he or she has bluetooth). Also, bluetooth phones allow you to use "handsfree" ear pieces that you can wear on your ear, to make phonecalls without holding your phone, and there will be no wire attached because the signal is sent through bluetooth. (this is the most common use). So if you do a lot of driving, bluetooth might be a good idea on your phone because it lets you use these earpieces. Hope this all made sense :-)

Bluetooth is a form of wireless communication...Most likely if you have it on your phone you'd use it for one of a couple of things...first, all those nifty wireless hands free devices use bluetooth to communicate with your phone. Second, if you have a laptop that is bluetooth capable you can use your phone as a wireless modem for your computer. The last I'm aware of is that some cars are now being made with bluetooth, allowing you to use hands free technology built into the car.

Bluetooth is an industrial specification for wireless personal area networks (PANs), also known as IEEE 802.15.1. Bluetooth provides a way to connect and exchange information between devices like personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones, laptops, PCs, printers, digital cameras and video game consoles such as the Nintendo Wii via a secure, globally unlicensed short range radio frequency.

The name Bluetooth was born from the 10th century king of Denmark, King Harald Bluetooth, who engaged in diplomacy which led warring parties to negotiate with each other. The inventors of the Bluetooth technology thought this a fitting name for their technology, which allowed different devices to talk to each other.[1]. The name of the king in Danish was Harald Blåtand and the Bluetooth logo is based on the H and B runes.

Bluetooth is a cordless "hands-free" device that allows one to accept calls, talk (calls end when other party hangs up) and make calls by voice command. It's clarity of your voice to others is amazingly impressive.

It's perfect for busy people and drivers. Bluetooth's only downfall currently is it's range is about 30 feet from the "attached" cellphone device.

it's a wireless connection to your phone, allowing you to use such things as hand free without wires being connected to your mobile phone. It transmits waves rather than having a solid connection from one device to another
