The notion that someone's identity as a person should be determined by color is pretty da*n sad, and can only mean they have nothing much going for them to begin with. I'm black with a hint of Injun blood, and that's actually helped me to find MORE of an identity because I discovered myself as an individual without having to confine and restrict myself to a certain group. The same for my mulatto cousin. She's no "tragic mulatto". I am proud of my heritage, but that doesn't mean that my individuality and worth should be determined by my color. That's redundant racist hogwash. If mixed race people experience any problems, it's not their problem-it's society's.

Thanks most of y'all.

And Dormilona LOL. I'm so sorry, Apache and Sioux. Yeesh. I like the word Injun. Sure it's old school, but who cares? Native American is too long and awkward, Indian is inaccurate and confusing, redskin is derogatory, so Injun-juuuuuuuust right.

You know what's really sad? That people still use the word "Injun."

No, we have multiple identities. We have dualities as well. Sometimes we even realize harsher truths then others. Many of us except that we are mixed, unlike the rest of the population which is in denial about being mutts too. Of course then again there is always internalized racism, but that’s a different topic.
;-)

You are correct it is Society’s problem, not the individual; for we didn’t pick to be born in a world that was racist. On the other hand we maybe here to prove we are all mutts, thus stop the racism LOL!

P.S.
Why don’t you be Respectful and save typing and just say/type “Native” Please (that's the least you could do for your other POC kin)

Most people in this country are mixed races. A Heinz 57 of different nationalities. You keep being proud of who and what you are. You can't change ignorance but you can change the way you react to it. There was a time when it wasn't so cool to be native american. I have always been proud of the fact that I am, even when it wasn't cool. Sounds to me like your an intelligent person and you have a good out look about who you are.Don't let it worry you. God Bless.

people who suffer from those perceptions create those myths because they're ethnocentric - and it supports that way of seeing the world. it's like in Australia when they say urban Indigenous people have lost their culture - whereas actually they still have strong cultural links, but due to abuse and punishment, have lost some ways of expressing it - like some ceremonies etc - there's a big difference between loss of culture and loss of ways of expressing culture - but it's to the advantage of racist white australians to think Indigenous people have lost their culture. it's all based on ignorance. racially mixed people have more heritage and more cultural identity, enjoy it! As i'm sure you do...

Whatever you heritage; be proud and not let someone who is limited to their own knowledge of their own heritage bring you down. Know and trust who your are and respect who you are without reservation. There are no pure race of people; no matter with their agenda or propaganda; no one is pure. We are all part of the human race; no exception. Others would deny, for security; but its only false and how sad to base your reality on lies.

I'm French and Irish. So I have two wonderful (well maybe not the french) identities. Mixed people should always count themselves lucky. They are cooler then single raced people.

In my opinion, most of us are mixed anyway. I'm white, but I don't know where all of my ancestors are from completely. I don't care, though. I know who I am and I think we live in a sad world when people think the color of your skin makes you the person you are.

maybe because of history and tradition?because in history people hate others because they are not like them, and sometimes insecurity because the other reace is much productive than they are so they make them feel weak and make thier race superior than the other physicaly like tha americans did. well just to tell you tha very 1st who had practice heart surgery to a baby was a black man named vivien thomas who was later recognized as a doctor not white people.

I'm black and native american. I have no identity problems. sadly, when mixed people are mixed with black they are label black because of the one drop rule. that rule is if you have 1/16 black blood , you are coloured. sad, isn't it?
