The Statue of Liberty, as it is the best representation of the ideals and the spirit on which this country was supposedly built...freedom and the promise of a better life to ALL who come here. Do you know the poem on the base of the Statue of Liberty???

“The New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles.
From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!"” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Not Mt. Rushmore, as it is disgusting that the faces of four dead while male presidents are carved into a mountain that is sacred to Native Americans. And the Hollywood sign is too artificial and only symbolic of one industry in the U.S.

The Statue of Liberty, I'd think... or the White House.

The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France and has that poem on the base that welcomes immigrants, so that is very symbolic. Then again, the White House is a symbol of our government.

It's a tie for me.

well, i think statue of librty, however, seeing that she was not made by americans, and, that we are not about letting immagrants in (and i dont mean just mexicans, throughout history, the previous immagrants hate the next wave, i.e. at one point in time people did not want irish immagrants

so, i would say maybe mt. rushmore, showing that we can openly celebrate differing political veiws, have a change in power that dosn;t invole any bloodshead.

The Statue of Liberty hands down.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

She represents the freedom and our light to the world. The other monuments represent specific people, or beautiful works of architecture. But Lady Liberty represents our ideals and what we strive to make of ourselves.

PS - Is the Statue of Liberty on any of our currency?
