I agree that a 400 increase over two weeks is a lot to ask. When I took mine, I spent a couple of weeks revising and my base went up by about 150 (I hadn't done ANY math for about 20 years, so I only worked on this aspect), but as an English teacher, my other skills were easily strong enough to carry me through without additional work.

Ultimately, it is easier to improve on math in the short term - you can learn and apply skills relatively quickly, whereas it is much tougher to improve vocabulary and verbal processing skills quickly. If you are definitely taking the test soon, you should put most of your effort into this section. Read over sample essays and word lists (you can find them online) in the remaining time.

If it is really important for you to achieve a 1400 (which is quite high by any standards), then you should be realistic and give yourself the time to work towards it. Many people take special classes and follow study courses lasting a year or so (especially if English is not your first language). It sounds like you are either aiming too high or giving yourself too little time.

Incidentally, when I took mine, 1600 was the max (800 each in verbal and math) and the essays were marked in half point increments up to a maximum of 6. If you are sitting the test (as most people do) on a computer terminal, you will not be offered the next question until you have answered the previous one, so there may be times that you will have to give your best guess. Also because these computer tests are predictive (they target all the questions to your maximum ability range), the first questions of each section are the most important. It is better to answer them carefully at the beginning and lose a few at the end.

Good luck!

1000 is pretty low -- the highest score is 2400. Don't you get 600 for just signing your name?

If you are scoring 1000, then improving might be difficult. One piece of advice is don't guess at anything. If you don't know it, leave it blank. They take off for wrong answers.

Uh... You can't. Sorry. The only ways would be unethical if not illegal unless you for some reason are doing poorly now and in 15 days you return to your normal self.

They have books with practice tests that really help. The good ones are the books with the old tests that were actually used. Find them at any bookstore/ library.
Good Luck!!
