How is it that you retain so much information? even into old age? are there any tricks? or is it just good memory or something else?

Also do you remember when it was that you learned that certain bit of information?

example: when did you learn the name of the prime minister of canada-- when was it exactly that you learned that information

I think the fact that you read (and I think most trivia 'masters' read a lot) information that is new and interesting leads to its retention. It is so much more interesting to know things that you may never have a need for than it is to learn things you are forced to learn.

I agree absolutely with the person who made the link with reading. I read voraciously and somehow learning about the context (background information etc) helps me to retain the information. It doesn't hurt if you read the news a lot, because often the same concepts, people and places will crop up, which also cements the information in your mind. Talking about the information in discussions with your friends and family will keep it in your short term memory too, so then it's easier to find it than shifting it to the dusty shelves of your long term memory.

Ultimately then, if you read a lot, follow the news and talk about current affairs in your social life, then you are going to improve your ability to remember!

Good luck!

My brain is just wierd like that, I think everyone has the info in their heads, some people are just better at organizing it an pulling it out, like the prime minister of Canada, Paul Martin, heard his name on CNN a couple of weeks ago, and poof! There it is.

It's hard to remember when something has been learned.

I'm very curious and am interested in many things. I pay attention and "clock" things as I read them, see them, experience them.
