Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* How to Open a Financially Successful Pizza & Sub Restaurant by Shri L. Henkel
* Getting Your Slice of the Pie: A Definitive Source for Prospering in Pizza by Tracy Powell

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

If you get a franchise, there is relatively very low risk. You can start making money right away. 'just make sure you have a good location and hire good employees. Since you sound like you're new to this, buy something that's been in existence for awhile, then you can have the current owner give you tips and some training.

If you're starting your own, the ingredient is everything. Then, you want to specialize and focus on a key concept whether it be a different and trendy atmosphere the way people get served, etc. You should start on a basic business plan for this, but I don't recommend it if you do not have good people to advise you through the whole process. For advise, etc., you can turn to the Small Business Adiministration in your area (they're in the phone book).

Good luck!

there are many factors to consider .

do you have a decent location ......? it really is optimum to purchase a site rather than to lease , for often times it will require two to three years to establish your restaurant . do you have a line on equipment , and suppliers ........? can you get a beer and wine license , or perhaps a full service liquor license .....? do you have any food service experience ........? how many other restaurants in the area are serving similar cuisine .........? do you have access to experienced help ........? are you well financed ......? do you have an array of recipes to distinguish your place from others ......?

yes indeed , the Italian food industry can be quite lucrative , but it can also be quite competitive !

best of luck !

cheers !
