It all depends on North Korea at this point.
A general regional war in the Middle East is almost certain. It's possible that it will remain a collection of isolated semi-limited engagements, but that's unlikely.
However, as long as only that region is at war, it won't expand beyond that. The danger is North Korea. If they also escalate into active hostilities with Japan, that will drag in China and probably Pakistan. At which point, you would have most of Europe and Asia, plus the US, involved to one degree or another. That counts as a world war.
So, the variable is just how crazy North Korea is, and whether they're willing to wait until Middle East hostilities drop back to a sporadic simmer before causing more problems.

It's a matter of "when," not "if."
Israel is a bigger factor than North Korea, especially with recent activity. Let's face it, if North Korea really starts causing problems, nobody would side with them... Not even Russia, China or Iran. However, if Israel tries to take more territory, virtually the entire Middle East will be up in arms. If they send ground troops into Beirut, or if they try to attack Damascus or Amman, it will surely incite everyone from Libya to Pakistan. Even Turkey would turn against them. Of course, the new Iraq government would be impotent... but I guarantee attacks on US troops would triple overnight.

I still dont think so. With the ties US made in Russia, that slimmed the chance. It could be probable if china along with Korea and some middle east country forms an alliance and go against the power nations. Either way, I guess we all need to pray it doesnt happen. War is a very ugly.

It's a time of instability, which is definintely a precursor to war. It all depends on the actions of certain leaders, including our power-mad King George W. Bush (who in practice is no less evil than Kim Jong Il). I hope things even out before we reach the point of global war, but hope is fairly useless in the practical world.

Leading to? Led to. All that's holding us back from total destruction, is the full knowledge by all the world powers that an all out nuclear attack will end this planet.
