It's just the signal lights.. the emergency lights turn on, which are the same as the signal lights.......so the actual bulb is working......

Yes...my break lights and headlights go out pretty often... but that's the only thing I've had trouble with since I got my car 4 years ago... so it's not that bad.....

Try the fuse panel and check your fuses, hopefully its as simple as a blown fuse.

With most cars, that's an indicator that you have a blown fuse OR a burnt out tail light.

I'm not sure where the fuse box is on a Beetle, but if you can find your owner's manual, you should be able to find info on where the fuses are, as well as which fuse to check. If the fuses all look okay (you can see quite easily if they're blown - there's a gap in the wiring), then check your tail lights, one may be burnt out.

Remember, try not to handle the fuse connections OR the bulb with your bare hands. Your skin oils cause them to wear out faster.

A box of fuses costs about $5 at your local auto parts store. Bulbs around about the same, depending on which you need.

gemthewitch is right too (she sounds like such a clever gal) a bad bulb will kill the blinker. if its a fuse chances are there is more on this circuit then just the turn signals, like brake lights or parking lights, if other things don't work its most likely a fuse

Typical VW feature. I always see taillight issues with VW and VW related cars (Audi, Porsche, Bugatti, Lambo, etc...)
