if you think about it over the past 50 years or so we've had world war III (Korea), IV (Vietnam), V (Gulf War I) and VI (Gulf War II) and that's just the US led wars.. I'm sure many many other examples exists... we just don't number them anymore - besides WW III is supposed to stand for total nuclear annihilation

You never know, but the wars going on right now though are kind of small and could be "easily" diffused. The small wars will continue in the middle east. North Korea and Iran will keep talking trash for a while but they don't stand a chance against the rest of the world. In order for a true wwiii to exist, you need those "axis of evil" powers to actually ally with each other and make treaties and stuff, but being all conflicts of different types (religious, political, economical, etc.) at least not in the short future.

I think WWIII is very well possible, almost inevitable. And I'm not so sure it hasn't started yet. Maybe we're already in a period history will later on call WWIII. What will be defined as the beginning of WWIII only time will tell, but I think the world has gotten itself into big trouble already and it looks like it will only get worse.

Newt Gingrich sez we are experiencing WWIII,
as the civilized world against extreme Islamic terrorist,
that may or may not eventually include nuclear warfare,
that you likely consider the basis of WWIII.

Funny you should ask. I have just asked a similar question. I feel uncomfortable about the current situation between Israel and their neighbours. And I recall the Bible makes a point regarding the final war that seems (from the description) to begin in the middle East. For a number of years now I have been waiting for the BIG one. I pray to be wrong and wait for much longer.

I would not like to speculate that it will eventually come to this. But, if and/or when it does, it won't be WWIII, ti will be 'turn out the lights'.

Anything is possible, as is WW3.
