I really want to make my delivery room as comfortable as possible. Ive heard that the more homey you make the room the better. So Ive made a birthplan. I would like to have the lights low, and bring a few things from home. Ive also plan to have my own pillows spread with my favorite scent. I know that now matter what I do its still going to be labor and it wont be a fun process. But anyway I was just wonerding if anyone else has done this amd Im wondering what worked best for you???

I brought some soothing music....which was for me ..a tape of sea sounds and rain. Don't forget socks, my feet were always cold and the floors are freezing. Also, try to get into your own nightgown as soon as they let you. I started to feel more normal after I was able to do that. [You probably won't be able to do that until after the delivery, though..unless things have changed since I had my last baby] By the way, you have some very good ideas of your own.

I just had my son 2 weeks ago, and I didnt' make a birthing plan. I brought a pillow from home, and a cd of a mix that I liked however.

BUT I was so out of it from all the pain, I hardly remember the whole thing. Having a pillow from home only was nice afterwards when I had to stay there for a week, and I don't even remember hearing the cd playing although it was.

Lights low is good, they automatically did that in my room, and also if you dont' have an epidural, what is really nice is a jacuzzi!

I didn't use any of the techniques that I learned in birthing class. I tried some of them, but the only thing that really helped was moaning, and my husband jsut being there.

One thing on the pillows too, birthing is messy! dont' bring ones you care about too much! :) good luck!

I can't say that I did a lot of this but I did get a room with a bed a bed specifically for my boyfirend so that he could be there with me all night and also after I had the baby. I also was allowed to keep my baby in my room at all times instead of having him in the nursery. I think that way of doing things is over or at least I hope. With my next baby, I would like to have him/her at home with a birthing mother. This is perfectly legal here in the United States. I saw a video about it and I think it's best. We really have come a long way.

You might want to check with the hospital as to their policies. Also, a pillow is something that can easily get mixed in with hospital linens and you may never see it again. Believe me, you aren't going to care much as labor progresses. Any adaptations you want to make will also need to be "cleared". While hospitals try to accomodate, accept the fact that you must abide by their policies as they are looking out for what is best for you and your baby.

Since I had severe complications and it was a dire emergency, I had nothing with me, not even a suticase, so I can't tell you what worked best for me.
