our atmosphere is like a layer of insulation as the heated light passes through its traped or its excape is slowed. the earths atmospher is a relitivly small place to heat. think of it like heating a home during winter in aspen . the house is insulated so it stays warm as long as there is a heat sorce .yet when take the same furnace out side it would realy do no good because the space is to great for it to heat

Actually this is a grand misconseption! It is not cold outside the earth. Actually it can get extremely hot! In space outside of the atmosphere there is no air and the only way the heat is transmitted is via radiation. In addition you do not have the protection of the atmosphere from the rays of the sun. Therefore if you are illuminated by the sun you will burn... but if you are in darkness e.g. shadow of the earth you will freeze. Thus the thermal design of spacecraft especially those carrying humans and/or sensitive equipment (e.g. large telescope mirrors) has to be very good to protect it from extreme temperature variations.

If radioactivity were not present on earth,then maybe the tempreture at night would be pretty colder.The main reason that the earth has a decent tempreture at night is radioactivity.Radioactivite decay takes place every now and then,atoms decaying and giving up energy which keeps the tempreture at night warm.The CO2 in atmosphere also plays part as it traps the heat released.Now thats why the outer space is so cold as it contains mostly vaccum.

Earth is at a moderate distance from the sun which is a source of heat and light. If we go away from the earth the distance from the sun increases where the heat of the sun is not felt and so we feel cool.

ok it does get cool at the temp oif around -5c for the first 10 miles
then as you go up another 25 miles and you get to the stratosphere. the temp drops dramatically to around -90c cause the layer actually absorbs heat
you go up another 20 miles and you get ot the mesosphere which gets heatted up again to around 5c because of the hiugh winds that is where you feel the prensence of the earth moving at high speeds
thenm you reach the thermosphere which is pretty much the outer space the tep hits around 1000c it is not cold as you leave earth it varies until you reach space

it all depends on where you are heading out of earth. If you are heading towards the sun, it will get hotter as you are going away from earth.

bcoz as u move away 4m earth the temperature ir reduced by 1 degree centrigade...as u move away 4m a plain to higher altitudes the temperature as well as the oxygen rates decrease...so it will b cold as u move away 4m earth...r u go to any high altitude places.
