1. Totally preachy, but I don't think that was BJ's fault . . . check out the writer on many of the later episodes . . . Alan Alda. I think having BJ was a way to move from the party boys to the bleeding hearts without going against the characters too much.
2. Frank . . . what a weasel. And, how the heck did he get Margaret?????
3. The army psychiatrist (Sydney) that comes to visit every so often . . . his appearance always hearlded a good episode.
4. Klinger in a dress over Radar, any day, but Klinger in military garb left something to be desired.
5. The episode with the long underwear being passed from person to person

My answers:
1. MASH was always trying to find itself from episode 1. They were already starting the dramedy (drama/comedy=preachiness) before BJ's arrival. But I think it was replacing Henry Blake with Sherman Potter that really did it.
2. Frank Burns for episode material and someone to pull pranks on who actually deserved it, CEW3 for a decent tent mate once you got past the pompiness.
3. Father Mulcahy (spelling?)
4. Radar, definitely; although Klinger's contributions after Radar's departure cannot be denied.
5. Klinger's first wedding, the one over the HAM radio.

Frank Burns was the best character. Made the show. As far as funniest segment, the episode where the guy that played Sherman Potter played a general. He was crazy. Laughed more than any other episode.
