if you haven't tried them before, get the slender or junior size. I've found that the tampax pearls are some of the best, even if they are slightly more expensive than other brands. the applicator is very smooth and you won't be able to lose the part you push in at all.

read all of the directions that come with them or ask your mother for help. most of all, relax. if you're tense it'll be very difficult inserting the tampon and will probably be uncomfortable.

if it feels uncomfortable after you insert it, remove the tampon and try again. you shouldn't be able to feel it at all if it's inserted correctly. it might take a couple tries, but once you get the hang of it it's very easy to do.

It might feel a little funny if you're not used to it, but if you do it right it shouldn't hurt at all.

It just takes a little bit of practice figuring out the right angle. If you get it in and you can still feel the tampon, you probably didn't get it far enough inside you. Honestly, you won't be able to feel it at all once it's in right.

Sometimes it does hurt the first time. Try putting your one leg up on the toilet seat and if you need to use a hand mirror. I'm not kidding. It helps to see what you're doing the first time.
