I was a manager at a retail store. The store had an awsome inexpensive security system that stored all auditing veiws for as long as the store had that security system. All you had to do is go back to whatever date you needed to veiw ,then there was a time scale you could click on to veiw a certain time of that particular day. If you know what you are doing, theres way to edit the time frames and delete certain scenes to make it look like one tape was running out and the other tape is coming on.Most businesses use fake cameras, just the idea of getting caught sends them to another store!

I know my old company used to keep tapes for a couple of weeks. We had a few problems that later, when we reviewed a tape that was a week or so old, they actually helped us on the situation. We made sure that we kept the tapes off premises so incase of a fire or break-in, that they weren't in harms way.
