why is a flight longer to australia than to china?

if china is on the other side of the earth (in raletion to the us), than why are flights to australia longer

Because both are on the other side of the world, but Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere so you also have to go South.

Because China is not on the other side of the earth. Get a globe, and have a look at it.
