What they have in Amazon is the disconnect switch that fits on the battery post and maybe you will have to open the hood and switch off the battery and it always drain the battery even after turn off the engine and park over-night. The car computer is old by the maker and the bios CMOS memory PROM chip in the electronic assembly is set up automatic every time when connect the battery. And the trouble code will be erased but the battery is always live 24 hours to hold the memory of codes. The code will come back after drive for few hours only if there is bad sensor.

Well a 96 Ford Taurus was not made to handle anything other than factory installed equipment for the electrical equipment. So I would recommend buying 2 new batteries considering you have probablly drain the life out of the one you have for the car the second is for you speaker and amp system that you have that way you wont have any worries as is your car gonna start or not.

NanChiat has it right the others are stupid and just wants some points. If everything is not turned off your battery is going to die has nothing to do with alternator at this point. Shorts in electrical systems are hard to find you will need to take it to a mechanic.

Its your alternator most likely. I'd look at upgrading the battery to an optima red top, and upgrading the alternator to a high output model to ensure your system gets all the required power. Also, check all your grounds to be sure everything is making a solid connection.

if the radio is on obviously it will drain the battery.if you needed to check for a short just disconect the battery and make the connection through a test light if the test light lights up there is a short or current drain.

Get a new battery, they cost anywhere from $50 to $100. Worth the money. Autozone will install it for free.

if youre running a high voltage sound system in your car with the stock alternator then you probably fried it and its not charging your battery like it should anymore. it could also be that your battery is just old and wont stay up like it should.

I had a Taurus several years ago, same probs. You have some wires crossed, literally. You'll have to take it in unless you know how to track down a short...good luck.
