Just adding, make sure your windows XP cd is a bootable windows XP cd (they will put the label in the front/back cover) otherwise even if you start the computer 1000 times with the advice above it wouldn't boot from the cd

Dear Soul,

This is because you have automatically booted into Command prompt to change it just press F8 while booting which will show many booting options just select BOOT Normaly using arrow keys and press enter and Presto you have booted perfect !!!

If you want the answer to how to boot from X P CD :

Step 1: when you switch on the system press DEL button which
will take you to BIOS

Step 2: select boot options in your BIOS [the name may very as
the compaines vary]

Step 3: Select boot device as CD and exit saying save options .

Step 4: pop in your X P CD

Step 5: Reboot and now you have Booted from CD

you will be heard if you have any question Heh heh.................

Go into the BIOS by pressing the DELETE key or F2 key (depending on your system) when the computer begins to boot up. Go into the Boot option and change how you want the computer to boot up. Make the CD-ROM the first option. Restart the computer and as it is booting up put the XP CD in..

I think that if you just hit "Enter" at c:/windows it will boot.

That is, in essence, a DOS command to run the program "windows".

That may not solve your problem, but if you can get the system up, you can run Startup Problems Troubleshooting.

Good Luck

in the blue screen it should reference a program, if thats the problem. In the recovery console type "disable PROGRAMNAME" and it should disable the service thats killing you. Also try safe mode (of course) and if that doesnt work, boot with BartPE (http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ ) back up your data, and do a format reinstall.

You put it in the disk drive and turn the computer on.

If it fails to boot like that you will have to go into your bios settings and tell the computer to check the disk drive first.

I refer to that as the blue screen of death. Time to upgrade.
