This may sound disturbing to you, but a substantial amount of research indicates asthma may be caused by worms. That's right, tiny worms that are ingested, migrate into the blood stream via the colon, and end up in the alveoli of the lungs. Eventually, they mature and bore through the alveoli, migrate up and are expectorated and swallowed, and the process begins anew.
You are probably seeing this information for the first time, so I invite you to embark on your own study.
I feel your succesful treatment will include a regimine to rid the body of parasites. Here are some environmental factors to consider, as well:
Airborn particulates are devistating to an asthmatic, especially the small ones that will easily pass through conventional filtration. It is important to have a strategy to remove all particulates from the breathing space of an asthmatic, especially while sleeping. Portable h.e.p.a. filtration can be effective, but the filter media must be kept clean or it can actually do more harm than good.
One of the biggest sources of particulates is also one of the most insideous. Fiberglass particles blow into the air space conveyed by the air ducts around leaks at the ceiling grilles. If you have blown-in insulation, the problem is far worse. It is very important to remove the grilles, clean them, and thoroughly seal the space around the ceiling "can" to the ceiling with latex caulk. The fiberglass forms small "spears" that can puncture the alveoli and can stay inside the lungs for years.
It is important to wipe down all hard surfaces in an asthmatic's room with a damp cloth to remove dust. (Floors, walls, furniture, etc.) You probably are aware of bedding that reduces dust mite infestation. The carpet (as you have heard many times before)should be replaced with a hard surface. Stuffed animals, knick-knacks, memorabilia may be charming; but for an asthmatic, they spell dust-trouble! Less is more. Lots of clean, hard, easily-maintained dust-free surfaces.
It is impossible to ignore the air distribution system, as it is constantly propelling new particles into the breathing space. The air handler should be spotless, free of any mold or debris. The filtraton should have extended media, at least 4" thick, with a dust-spot efficiancy of 65%. The return air chamber and/or ducts should be spotless, with no visible dust or debris. The supply ducts should be clean, free of mold and debris. Dust can be cleaned, mold cannot. Moldy supply ducts should be replaced. Duct cleaning will simply smear the mold around and dislodge millions of spores into the breathing space.
It is important to examine the home for evidence of moisture or water incursion from roof, foundation, windows, plumbing, high relative humidity, etc. This will cause mold. Your home must be kept dry at all times (relative humidity around 50%)
Finally, utilize the latest technology to keep the breathing space as clean as possible. Ecoquest has two products that are remarkably effective at removing airborn pollutants. For the a/c system, DuctwoRx. For portable equipment, Fresh Air. This equipment features a process called Radiant Catalytic Ionization, first developed by N.A.S.A.
I hope this helps. My family is in the same boat, and I practice what I preach.

My brother is an asthmatic and after ten years his asthma has shown no sign of improving. He has been to several doctors but they didn't help much.
If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

In Dr. Batmanheldi's book, "Your not sick, your thirsty. Your body's many cries for water", the Dr. says asthma is an effect of dehydration. Our brains are about 80% water and our body is about 70%. The brain takes first priority over water consumption and when dehydrated, many symptoms can occur. Water drawn from sponges in the joints is arthritis. When our cells form a waxy substance around them to conserve water, that is cholestoral. When water is drawn upon from the postules in the lungs that help us breath due to dehydration, our lungs close up to conserve that water and we call it asthma.
Try drinking half your body weight in ounces of water daily to reduce your need for medications. Ex: 150 pounds = 75 ounces.
