Without Affirmative Action getting a decent job, for which they are qualified, would be much more difficult for minorities and women.
Back when there was no Affirmative Action minorities had to create their own parallel economy, which ended in one of two ways:
1) Failure, with many people going bankrupt;
2) Even worse, success--whenever in the USA Blacks or Natives were successful, what followed was a white riot that destroyed their businesses and homes.
For an example, see the Tulsa Riot, where the prosperous Black district was burned to the ground and the start of a Black middle class was killed in the streets.

So AA is necessary, to keep minorities integrated in the mainstream economy and save them from the dual risk of failure or destruction in case of success.

Affirmative action is altogether wrong. It's just a PC way to justify
"reverse" discrimination. People have to lift themselves up by their own bootstraps, so to speak, and stop relying on handouts. As for Dubya, I'm not quite sure what you mean by his benefiting from affirmative action, other than the fact that he's shown himself to be a bit more of a social liberal than many would have suspected. He certainly has, however, benefited from nepotism from time to time.

I am white as hell AND a jewish atheist. And I believe that Affirmative Action is not only legal but is right morally! If you think that a black person can get into any college as easy as a white person you are absolutely wrong. And affirmative action doesnt hurt white people because they can get into another college much more easier than a black person.
And the only reason G.W.B got in to college is because his father was rich. Did G.W.B even pass preschool??

Affirmative action is a system that seeks to increase minority participation. But in doing so, slots that are filled for jobs, schools, etc. may be filled in order to meet a quota, opening the possibility that a better candidate is denied because they would not fulfil the quota. That, in itself, is racism. Affirmative action cannot improve society because it prevents societies from being blind to race, sex, skin color, etc. Instead of focusing on having more minorities employed, in school, etc., it is better to focus on the character of the individual.

properly, i could think of that socioeconomic is larger than race as a results of fact being unfavourable is the actual handicap. regrettably, racial discrimination nonetheless exists and we could want the present affirmative action. the different undertaking with affirmative action is that, for my area, does no longer create equality in any respect. And is bigoted too. i could ideally want some thing that reward actual ability and not race or how plenty money you had. we don't stay in an appropriate international in spite of the indisputable fact that.

I do not agree with affirmative action. However it does have its pros & cons. It helps the person of a visible minority who might otherwise not get hired, secure a job. On the other hand I personally would want to be hired on my own merit and not because I fit the bill due to my race.

Not any longer. Affirmative action has passed its time.
Everyone should have to live and work according to their qualifications and ethics. Not their race.

I think it is good in theory. But unfortunately the person that was treated so badly, usually is no longer alive and the person you are giving money or favors to has never been through that.
