...Dinky on Mayberry? (the andy griffith show) Who or what was he and what happened to him?

I'm from Mayberry (Mt. Airy, NC)...Andys hometown. Dinky died and when he did, the whole entire town mourned. The Andy Griffth Show and the Mayberry charactors is all anyone there cares about....seriously.
