There shouldn't have to be - the Americans should learn to write and speak OUR language properly and not use the lazy way of speaking/writing they currently do. And as for the non-imaginative vocabulary they have invented for computers IT and software - it makes you want to weep. E.g someone who uses a computer a USER, the piece of equipment where web pages are downloaded from a SERVER, they must have thought long and hard to come up with these truely unique I-don't-think-so descriptions for things in the IT industry - it so obvioulsy has its roots in Geekdom!!!

Try www.dictionary.com. It can give you the definition of any English word and even a lot of other Latin-derived words. It's a really good site for anything involving English. You can also set it to Thesaurus and get "alternative" words to use, and it lists many informal and slang terms too.
Give it a try, hope it helps!

I agree with the rant message. Americans are supposed to speak English, and who speaks that better than us in England? If we change it, so should they!
Who calls jam 'jelly' anyway? And calling a boot a 'trunk', I don't see it on the front end of an elephant, do you?
